And the Winners Are....

Before we get to that I want to apologise for having missed reading some of your posts over the last few days. On Friday I spent too much time working out of doors and wound up in hospital with heat stroke.  It wasn't a big deal, they just replaced fluids with an I.V. drip and sent me home. However, it left me feeling worn out for a few days.

Now onto the point of this post!

    1. Actually, it did give me some time to paint. I got two figures off the table and photographed. Another is done except for the highlights on his shirt. Yesterday I primed a new one and started laying down base coats.

  8. Congrats to all, sorry I missed the pressies. I was out of the room when the music stopped. Can I recommend To Kill a Mockingbird for a b/w movie, also Build My Gallows High and Battleground and Double Indemnity and This Gun for Hire and well there are millions out there but film noir and 1950's war movies are always a good bet

    1. I've got some good 50's war movies on the list, but for some reason I can't get any of the great British films. They must patrol YouTube and pull them as soon as they go up. Makes me pretty angry that.

      Thank you Martin!

  11. Dear Anne, I am very sorry to learn about your episode and relieved to know that you are okay now. Having lived in the Sunshine State since 1984, I have learned to avoid the sun's harmful rays and searing heat and stay indoors during the spring and summer.

Congratulations to all the giveaway winners and to you, Anne, for having such a generous spirit.

    1. I'm a real out doors person and can't bear to be inside. Also I've my gardens to tend which takes rather a lot of work. Normally it's not all that hot here, but of late that has changed. On the day of, it was 96 degrees. i've learned my lesson though about being out in that kind of heat.

      Thank you dear Shady!

    1. Poor Hubby, first his father, then his wife. And he can't get round big hospitals well, so he has to use a wheelchair. He was not a happy man!

Fang was on the front porch where there's shade, lounging all day. When it's this hot out, she sleeps all day then goes out hunting at dusk. She brought me a couple birds this week. I think she wanted me to make soup of them :0)

      Delete
    2. Who drove you to the hospital? Tell me he didn't have to call an ambulance! Did you faint?

Oooh, a bird soup... I think I shall pass :) My cat once brought me a pheasant in the middle of the city!

      Delete
    3. No, I just got wobbly and couldn't stand up. The Hubby drove me as I was conscious.

A pheasant! You is lucky dahlink, all I ever get is pigeons. You need to teach your kitty to raid gardens and bring you some lovely tomato's :0)

    4. My kitty's current fave passtime is to hunt down bugs in the evenings. We have some huge nasty ones which come out of the earth in the evenings and then they buzz around flying. It's such a show watching him jump through air to catch them and then eat them..... He will sit for hours watching their holes.

    5. He's pretending he's a lion on the Serengetti, patiently stalking his prey and then making a big kill. It's the highlight of his day darling.

    6. yes that and whenever I come out of the house :) He always patiently waits for me to show up and only comes to the door when he senses it is me who is coming out. And he also hears when I open the doors of the pantry where I keep his food and will sprint across the yard at the sound of it :)

Dahlink, I must wipe my floors... have any trolls I could use for the business? :)

    1. The best place to get sick is in hospital. Half the time they don't bother washing their hands between patients and spread pneumonia around.

When you're name came up, I knew it was a sign from God that I was being punished. Two pieces of bad luck in the space of just a few days.

Not sure if I've still got it, so please send it again.

      Delete
    2. Yep, those places are sooo nasty. Hospital, Airports, Schools and then gyms, top 4 germiest places most public go to.

lol hey, a little viking fat chewing beats heat stroke. Although you may think you have heat stroke after watching the cat do that for a few seconds.

      Delete
    3. Don't forget buffets/smorgasbords. Those places horrify me. All that food sitting under those hot lights for god knows how long. And all those people pawing through the food. Oooo and what's worse is when they have seafood on them. You really can't keep clams fresh for six hours on a thin bed of ice underneath hot lights. And can you imagine how long those clams sat in the back before they came out front? No, no, no.

Heck I'd take watching you and your Viking woman over heat stroke any day of the week.

      Delete
    4. Ugg, yeah those things are nasty too, never will touch food at those.

    5. And then there's food bought at a street vendor.....all that dirty hot dog water just sitting there.....

    1. You're going to love those figures. I bought the Victorian Steam Ladies and Robots for myself and they are super cool. They're going to be a real challenge to paint and will most likely take me six weeks to complete.

The bad news is that I'm now hooked on Lead Adventure Figures. This is going to cost The Hubby some money!

  21. Heat stroke can hit fast. I had a mild touch one year while at Tankfest in Dorset. One minute I was fine and then I felt dizzy and sick and all wobbly. Luckily I was ok after a few pints of water and an hours rest in an air conditioned room, but it took me by surprise. Take it easy lass, and ditto the advice about wearing a hat!

Great competition by the way, and what a great photo of Ray...so lifelike!!!

  24. Greetings Anne,

Thought it was the decent thing to do and come and visit your blog. First of all, I want to thank you for commenting on my shy, humble and very obscure site. Most kind and flattering.

Awesome stuff to all the winners. Of course, I reckon Pat in the Hatt, the dude with the rhyming cat. You might not know this, but Pat is one of tiny group of starstruck fans.

My favourite black and white film was a documentary on pandas, zebras and a certain skunk. Cannot recall the name of the film :)

Very nice meeting you, Anne. I hope you manage to stay cool and feel much better.

    1. We do frequent some of the same haunts and I've noticed you about of late. I went over last week for the first time and saw a lot of my buddies talking to you. I've seen Pat over there. I go way back with that fetid feline and he's been one of my best pals since the beginning. Love him to bits.

I think I've seen that documentary. Doesn't it have a polar bear in it as well>

Thank you so much for the visit!

    2. Pat in the Hatt, is where it's at.

I was going to mention the polar bear. However, the polar bear was demanding too much air time and thus, was not involved in the documentary. The Canadians were not pleased ;)

Pleasure to visit and look after your good self.

    3. I've heard they can be real divas. David Attenborough once complained about a polar who walked off set because the seal that had been left in his dressing room had one blue eye and one brown eye. "You'll never work in this town again!" Attenborough was heard to scream. Well Canada was rightly indignant. Things got so bad that Cameron even asked the Queen if she would pay a visit to smooth things over. She was heard to say "One would freeze one's tits off. Just send them money, it has my face on it."

Thank you for returning. I'm enjoying the banter.

and speaking of cool, not cool you ended up in the hospital; if the one where you live is anything like
the ones here, God help ya......

they dont listen, dont care and ya come out sicker than when ya went in...

and if ya need surgery you purposely go to the airport and walk yourself thru the metal detector to see if some surgical apparatus is still lodged in your spleen

    { tho hospital scrubs do make for great gardening work as it's loose fitting.... }

hope your feeling way better ♥

    1. Ya, the local hospital is one of those. It's real name as Fayette Memorial, we call it Fatal Memorial. Last year I dislocated my shoulder and had to go to casualty. Now the dislocation was so obvious it looked kind of creepy. And the idiot walks into the room, with my arm hanging out the socket and says "So what can we do for you today?" Well Jesus Christ, if you can't figure that one out, I'll just do it myself. I tore the rotator cuff and they offered to do surgery. I declined their offer. Arseholes probably would have amputated the damn thing by mistake.

I'm much better now. Spent the day out of doors gardening!

    1. I am not the only one to do give aways. This is a long standing tradition amongst gamers here and I have won more than my fair share of them. It was time for me to give back to the community.

Let me clarify something for you. These are not my fans. Rather it is I that am a fan of the people you see here on a regular basis. Most of these guys can paint me under the table, they are my superiors and I know it. Yet, they have been kind enough to take the time to be patient with me as I learned, to teach me and to encourage me. Further as most of them are historical painters and to me, historical painters are the best of the best and they conduct themselves with dignity. I am honoured and humbled by their presence.

And as for the people here who are not gamers or painters, it is I who am impressed with them. Although this blog is devoted to a hobby they do not share, they are kind enough to visit me, despite running large blogs of their own. I am their follower, their fan.
