Hasslefree Rose

For the past several months, everything I have painted has been done in an effort to acquire new techniques and to work on different palettes for figures I intend to paint for this years Analogue Hobbies Winter Paint Challenge.

To that end, I chose to paint Rose, a Juvenile, from Hasslefree Miniatures sculpted by Kev White. My goal was to use negative space and subdued colours to create a grim and somber mood. The single flower on the base is to represent a Poppy.  I carved the base from Super Sculpey.

Also I have just finished my first Dinosaur as a practice for several dino's I plan on painting for the Challenge. I will post that this month in honour of Michael Awdry's "Dinovember", a yearly event I have come to look forward to.

Later this week I will do a separate post that will outline my plans for this years Winter Challenge. I will tell you this as a teaser though. Someone out there threw down a gauntlet and I chose to pick it up.  Details will be in my next post.

  6. Nice job! The way you photographed it, the figure almost looks anime. Which is really cool.

  8. This one made me sad. Not because you did a bad job, because you did a great job, one that evoked an emotion. You know I don't like emotions! How dare you!

  9. I agree with Alex, it does look anime...and really cool. Fantastic work, Anne!

I like dinosaurs, can't wait to see them.

  11. I love it Ann, you nailed the somber mood you were going for. The only thing I might have done differently would have to been going dark grey instead of red on bricks. I think that would have heightened the somber mood and made the poppy really stand out. Excellent work!

  12. Dahlink, there is so much stench in this world, the stench of evil and corruption, that we might all need such a gas mask! Love what you did with that base, dear!

    1. Indeed there is darling. And the odour of that wretched little troll down the way is beginning to make my eyes sting. I haven't put anyone in the Troll of Fame for a while.

  17. Very appropriate for Remembrance Day, what with the gas mask and the poppy of Flanders Fields.

  18. Sounds like it's busy times ahead in the O'Leary workshop. A whole month dedicated to dinosaurs? I can live with that. Rose looks great in my opinion.

  20. Wow, you haven't posted in over a month and now you have 2 more posts planned after this? Damn, you'll be so exhausted you won't post again until 2016 lol

Awesome job indeed, but not even that gas mask will protect from the gas that comes out the cat's rhyming ass.

  21. Fantastic work as always. You have such a knack for making these figures burst to life, especially with your base work. Bring on the next post, and bring on some dinosaurs! My inner 6 year old just giggled with glee.

  22. Great job Anne, a miniature that I thoroughly enjoyed working on myself. I remember when doing the prep work thinking that I would never be able to pain something this small, but the quality of the sculpt was so good that it became a delight. Love what you are doing with the base too, very moving.

  27. Anne; very nice work on both figure and base; the gas mask and clenched fist...yea...totally grim & sombre..while I confess to being a dumb ass when it comes to history...of any type...anywhere...period....we can hope the kids of today don't experience Rose's mood...or "hat"....

looking forward to seeing the dino's....

    hope to see a T REX ~~~~

  28. I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

    BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!

I'm sure American women everywhere are devastated. You should jump off a tall building and really teach 'em a lesson.

    3. What a silly little troll we have here today. What shall we do with him? Shall we pick him up by his little piggy toes and hang him from our ramparts or shall we just let Guido deal with him? Decisions, decisions....

    4. no, dahlink, just turn him over to those American women :)
