I'll Be Around

Blogger never has and never will be a priority in my life. An off and on blogger I have always been and an off and on blogger I will always be.

Sometimes my life is like a waltz. Calm, elegant, serene. When it is like this, I am loathe to part with those moments and give them to a computer.

Sometimes it is like falling through mid air with precious little to cling to. When life is like this, I do not have the luxury of time to give to blogger.

I am under no obligation to explain which one of these things is keeping me away. My life is my own and I do not feel the need to share its most intimate details with others.  Nor do I feel obligated to read blogs and comment on them when I am away for extended periods of time.

Which brings me to my final point. It has come to my attention that some people have seen me commenting on Fran's page when he posts and they are upset that I am not commenting anywhere else. I refuse to apologize for this as Fran is an Irish person who is living abroad. I would no more miss one of his posts than I would miss saying my prayers at night before I go to bed. Because you have the grave misfortune of not being Irish, you cannot understand this.

So I'll be around to comment here and there over the next few days and I will return to blogger when I am able.

Have a good weekend people. Life is short and time waits for no man.

  2. Absolutely Anne - you post when YOU want, not when us ninnies demand that you do :)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done with the Reaper Bones minis you won :)

  3. Your blog - your life - your choice! You don't need to apologize for it.

  4. I'm happy to read what you post when you post it. Fran is always worth commenting on as he has such a good sense of humour.

Just don't beat yourself up about blogging or not blogging..... most of us have more going on in our life that tapping a keyboard and those that haven't probably should get out more! Best Wishes Clint

  5. Who ever has their knickers in a knot needs to get a life. You blog when it is right for you and your life.
That said, hope all is well in your world.

  6. Heh.. great logic. Enjoy life.. thats all you need to be doing.. and if enjoying life includes looking at blogs, OK, if not, well, OK. :)

  8. You've always been off and on really and that's perfectly fine by me. I think it's a bit unfair of people to complain you post comments on Fran's page but not theirs. I guess quite a lot of people have an over inflated sense of entitlement.

  9. I've never had an issue with you ever taking blogging breaks or doing something else but I'm an Irish guy who lives at home and I've always felt quite close to you as a younger brother kind of deal but I don't know. Maybe I too will be selective over who I interact with, the people who actually put time and effort into interacting with me.

  12. Here here dear! I've always taken the stance that you should Blog because you want to and when you don't, don't. Its not a business, its a hobby, and hobbies are itinerant little beasties that have to fit around real life. We'll still be here when you get back.

As for the disadvantage of my English Birth, all I can say is, does being a 1/16th Irish help? Surely the Oirish Genes are dominant? Certainly being around Fran makes me swear like an Irishman... maybe that's just Fran bringing out the best in me... ;)

    1. Do you have a nasty temper that you can barely control? Do you struggle to keep your mouth shut when you feel like saying something shocking? Are you hung like a horse? If the answer to any of the above questions is no, you're not Irish:)

  15. Dear Anne, just post because YOU want to.
If someone does complain, thats THERE problem!!!
Blogging is just for fun, so we all keep it this way.
Personal I am busy as well, and can't comment on every blog ;-)

Sorry for my reaction on your blog, whahahaha

  16. Feck anyone who is making those comments Anne and as you say its your life and you do what you want. As for posting on one of your fellow countrymen's blog, good on you for the Irish need to stick together especially when aboard and I count it being my honour being Irish too, even if it is from the wrong side of the border but still green.

  17. I was at Friendship, Indiana last weekend for the Spring Rendezvous of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and heard this while sitting at the firing range, "Love many, trust a few, paddle your own canoe."
Paddle away, Anne. Follow the current or not, it's your life.

  19. As you know, I'm an on and off blogger myself. More off lately that on. There's too much life to live than spend it in front of a computer. I wouldn't be the least bit upset if you never commented on my blog again because we both understand that life comes first. I think it's bullshit of others to complain that you haven't commented on their blogs! Attention whores they are!

Enjoy life and don't feel obligated to anything on blogger!

    1. You, me and Elsie don't blog according to the rules and we often times find ourselves having to explain our absences. And we shouldn't have to. I look at it this way, if I don't post that's one less blog busy people have to comment on. Really I'm doing the public a service by being away!

      Delete
    2. I never play by the rules! I never blog anymore either. That's a good thing because it only means I'm getting some quality time with my family. If I get a wild burr up my ass or feel the need to rant I may blog here and there but I'm done for the most part. But fear not, I'll still be around, lurking in the shadows! Someone has to make Elsie's life hell! And that turtle too! lol

  20. Anne you blog when you want, comment when you want, this is just a hobby. Take care

  21. I'm a firm believer in "blogging without obligation." And no one should ever get worked up about someone else's commenting patterns. The blogosphere is not high school, so let's all be mature about things.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Truth be told I hadn't noticed Anne or was even aware of an issue. Sure perked my ears up when I heard you the defence as I was a bit confused. Absolutely you have no obligations to comment on other blogs and should of course feel free to comment on whatever interests you and as long as you have the same attitude about others supporting yours then I see no issue whatsoever. Enjoy the summer and feel free!

  23. Completely right Anne, all of our lives are our own and you should never have to explain to anyone your choices.I need not say anymore

  24. What? you commented on his and that creepy cyclops and not the cat's? I will never ever forgive you..lol pfffft you know the cat loves pissing people off. You know you've made it when you get hate mail. Too short to be spent on here if you don't want to or other priorities take place, if others don't get that tell em to stick it up their arse indeed.

    1. Did I hear my ears ringing, cat? "Creepy cyclops?" Pfft to you, wretched beast!!

  25. Yeah, I agree with Alex. Besides, there's no obligation. It's not like you're getting paid to post and comment. Wait, you're not, are you? Cause I want to get paid to post and comment, so, if you know how to do that, let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No problem Anne. Love it when you comment and miss you when you're not posting but I can accept that there is more to life than blogger. And as a 1/4, 3rd generation born in the US, Irishman I think I get it. Or at least 1/4 get it.

  27. total bollox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah who am I trying to kid. You do as you please, I have to admit that I do have a bit of a guilt thing going not visiting all the blogs I like as often as I would wish but at the same time don't mind at all others not getting round to mine.

But at the end of the day it's s'pose to be fun in'it?

You seem to have the balance right and I just hope it's for the better reason you are away, you sure deserve it that way :-)

  33. Life is too short to do a single thing you don't want to. Except maybe the clothes. And work, because we need the money. Life is too short, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well the saying 'you can't please everyone' is true. Therefore, if you're ticking someone off, stands to reason you are doing things right. right? And if someone is disappointed then they're just doing their part to prove that what you're doing is what you should be doing, and so they should feel happy in their disappointment since it shows the vital role they are playing in the greater scheme of things.

  35. Must admit I used to feel guilty not managing to post comments on all the blogs I follow, but its simply not possible, and have time for a normal life and find time to get any painting done!
Blogging is meant to be fun, do it when you can, and want to, and comment where you will, if you feel motivated, by a worthy post. Never feel you have to!

I cant say I have any Irish blood, though perhaps my North East English upbringing had me close-ish to past Gallic/Gaellic? inflences... thats about as close as I can get... However I love Guiness, does that count for anything? ;-)

    Best wishes
    Scott

  36. Comment on every blog that one follows!!? Impossible. As Scott has said, The time you´d have to invest would be enourmous!!!
As for irish etc...one of the good reasons I had for marrying my wife :-D

  37. I noticed the Fran comments, I just thought it was great you took the time for his posts. I think I understand despite my lack of Irish blood. It's a deep rooted cultural thing and I respect it.

Hope all is well. You're missed!

  38. We have and always will refuse to play "the comment game." It's bullshit. If you can't or don't want to read/comment, then don't. Just as we won't read or comment on anything we don't want to, or sometimes we just don't have time to. Enjoy real life, Anne. It's much more rewarding and so much more satisfying than a few extra comments and clicks here or there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I cannot possible understand who would be rude about someone else just because hey are commenting on their friends blog and not just another one they follow. Seriously if I only had time to comment on one blog I would chose the one by the person I got on best with or was the most like minded as. Good on you Anne...

... Also it has become apparent that I can take Irish studies at one of the universities in this country. would taking that get me in your good books? or would it hurt my English, 1/4 Scott, 1/8th Australian, some amount of French, mind? or both?

anyway this is your blog, your blogger account and it was your choice to follow those blogs nobody has the right to tell you what to do on blogger (except google but that can't be helped).

    Go Anne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(p.s) does following this blog and Fran's give me good background knowledge if I were to take Irish studies.

(p.p.s) the course outline states that "Ireland is now a wealthy, technologically advanced, highly educated and culturally sophisticated European nation."

what is your view on this statement, as an Irish person? personally I would have put "culturally unique and significant" as "sophisticated" sounds far too upper-class for the down to earth and realistic Irish.

  40. You know how I feel about a blogging schedule. I tried so hard to maintain one and it drove me crazy. I began my blog to have fun and bring me joy. In turn, I want my blog to bring joy to others. If I find it's a chore that will show in my writing. Who wants to visit a blog where the writer isn't excited about maintaining it?

People who track who is visiting and commenting who aren't worth a second thought. Those who are your true blogging buddies understand. You pop in when you can and on who you can. If you want to see one person one day and another person another day, who gives a rat's ass? What are we? Five? Puhleezzee!! =P

I hope your gardens are blooming beautifully, my dear friend!! I have some beautiful flowers growing in my backyard right now. Lovely!! Best of all - beach weather is finally here. W00t W00t

  41. I did the regular thing for that first year and then just couldn't stand it anymore. We're not getting paid for this and you're right, if we begin to hate it, it will show up in our work.

My flowers are coming along splendidly so far and my hot peppers and sweet peppers have their first fruits.

So glad to hear you're finding time for the beach. Try not to let the tourists get in your way!

  42. I don't care if you comment or not, when I see you on other blogs I am just glad ya still alive an kickin! But you will post pictures of your sculptures right? RIGHT? Not now but ya know..whenever...

  43. Being an off and on blogger myself, I understand your position. I blog when I feel like it and don't when I don't, and that's served me quite okay so far.

  44. I think the cat is sending extra tourists my way this year. You know how evil the cat can be to me.

I thought I'd share this with you because I know you'd get a kick out it: I've been putting a potted plant by my front door for the longest time. This year I didn't get around to it because of all the rain we've had. A few weeks ago, I noticed a blossom there and now I've got a plant with beautiful purple flowers where the potted plant used to be. Then I remembered when we first moved here I planted it that flower. I totally forgot!! I don't even know what kind of flower it is anymore but it sure is pretty.

  45. So. First of all, I just read this. So as you can see, I have followed your lead. I have been doing my best to inject the life back into me...and as strange as it may sound, after all that has happened, it's kind of hard! I think it is working.

Anyway, its terribly sad that someone had nothing better to do with their time than to v make you feel bad for something like this... You keep doing what makes you happy, because that is most important. Know that I miss you... And I don't say that to make you feel bad, just stating fact! I hope that happy things are occupying your time and that all is well!!

    xo
