My First Army-Huzzah!

It starts as nothing more than an itch and you think you can ignore it. But it persists, becomes more insistent and relief is needed. So you hit the online stores and begin buying loads of unrelated miniatures. A little of this, a little of that. Searching, ever searching.  Your soul slowly being devoured by a need you can't yet name. You dare not name it, for the cost is high.

Until late one night, entangled in sweat soaked sheets you are awakened by the sound of your own voice screaming "I NEED MY OWN ARMY!"  Brothers and sisters, I had just such a moment and it was hell. I didn't know what to do, where to turn. I rummaged through my lead pile finding stray Orcs, Dwarves, Gnomes, High Elves, Wood Elves and Goblins. "No, no, no, no" I need something grand, something epic, something none of my friends have. And then I found it.....

My first Army.....Drake, the Garrick Army.

Would you just look at that. I haven't known what happy feels like for the last six months, now I'm ecstatic. Those dragons, those warriors and those cool beasties-all mine, all mine. My precious, my precious...

Yes, it's a Kickstarter and I've backed five of them and never felt the urge to post anything about them. But this is special, this will be my first army.  I bet you guys remember how it felt to have your first army and wasn't it grand?

There are two other Army's to choose from as well. The link for the Drake Kickstarter is HERE and any questions that you have regarding game play can be answered HERE.  Stretch goals are being reached and I've already earned three cavalry and they are now adding another force to each Army Box. More goodies for me!

Tomorrow I'll be posting Baby Ray's Wet Nurse and on Sunday I'll be doing a Saint Patrick's Day Post. So I'll be around all week.

To get you ready for Saint Patrick's Day, here's a message from Irish actor Liam Neeson.

    1. You know it started out great and then my computer broke. I'm using the Spawn's right now. I'm going to have to go buy a new one today when the stores open. It's amazing how a good day can turn to shite in just a single moment!

  2. That is one impressive looking dragon. I myself have donated to a few kickstarters and if I had to choose one army to run, it would be a drake army. Or a full dragon army. Either way, I'll own them and together we shall own the world.

    2. That would be awesome! Science fiction and fantasy really do have a lot in common.

    1. I've got a small one to paint now, but nothing nearly as impressive as this bugger. I wonder how many times I'll have to strip the paint off before I get it right.

    2. Heres the trick to painting big scaly things (or at least what works for me) - Undercoat black, then drybrush heavily in white. Then apply a colour wash of desired scale colour. After this you could try a shade wash of the colour selected and/or then drybrush with a highlight of the colour of the initial wash.
Once that's all looking peachy then detail stuff like eyes, mouth, teeth claws etc...

The last one I did like was the LOTR Dragon - on my blog...

Best of luck! Drop me a line if you want more info.

    3. I will have to talk to you when the time comes to paint the one I have. I stripped it once already and knew I needed a completely different approach.

    1. I paint so slowly, but this should improve my speed. Painting multiples will help a lot. And then seeing the entire army laid out on the table-what a rush!

      Have fun in Milan!

  14. Congrats to your first army! Aaaah sweet joy of unpacking and assembling in a rush just to see all the glory standing next to each other.
Those are some great models. Especially the dragon is full of awesome.
It surely will be a joy to paint those guys.

  15. Damn, I missed the broken computer cutoff.
I don't know what I'd do with an army. Probably use it to take over brewery after brewery while keeping everyone employed. That's how InBev did/does it, right?
I look forward to what you do with all these new characters.

  16. That is it Anne, there is no going back now! As for the Army - wow! That is a stunning set of beasties and the like, a fabulous choice.

  23. I've seen these creatures in a nap or two after I have eaten too many mushrooms. These creatures are nicely crafted; a shall be challenge to any paintbrush. Enjoy.

  25. oooh... a dragon... oooh.....oooh...... a dragon! Everybody needs an army, dahlink, I myself have an army of angels at Facebook, Blogger and Tweeter who protect me with the span of their wings :)

  26. Welcome to the true addiction. It starts with "only one army". But those are pretty fantastic and unique looking sculpts. I'm excited for you. And Liam Neeson, priceless.

  27. I'm not sure if the wall of stone and bone really constitutes as part of an army. Unless it's a living and moving chunk of organic matter or something.

    I want a new army!
    Bah!
It looks like it will be the end of the year, though, before I even have time to think about having time for something like that.

    1. Do what the rest of us do. Buy a whole ton of lead and paint it when you get to it. It will call to you in your sleep. Then you'll stop sleeping, then you'll go mad and then you'll be posting mini's!

      Delete
    2. Oh, man, I have so much lead already. The problem is that some of it's so old it's worth too much money, now, to paint it.

  29. "Saint Patty's." Saint Patty's. Saint Patty's. The fact that there are still people in the world who say that angers me beyond belief grrr. I love the army figures on a lighter note Anne, I reckon that you're going to do a great job with all of these, best of luck.

  32. Very cool, and welcome to what we know as the slippy slope of collecting. You think it is only 1 army that you want.. but really you will be soon collecting enough models to fill in multiple cabinets worth, and be having to hide purchases from the hubby! Enjoy it, and hopefully they deliver on time. July is not that far off! Oh and have a good Irish day! Hope the weather in your neck of the woods is better than that in Ireland! :)

    1. I'm already hiding purchases from the Hubby. He doesn't know about this at all. By the time it funds, it will be too late. The army will be mine!

  33. very cool, its great to have an army, my first would have been a GW Gondorian army... those armies were small though 20-30 figures, but now I have Oronegrean armies of numbers exceeding 100 figs... can't wait to see them painted up... but you have officially got an army and that is a massive step forwards in your miniature endeavours. I love the style of the figures I must say, they look so good.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah you're jumping for joy now, but wait till you realise you have to paint them all! ;-) Congrats Anne and enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was gonna say that I hope it gets funded, because come on, I'd love to see what you do with these. Then I saw that it was.. and it was over funded. And this is the type of thing that makes me really happy kickstarter exists.
