Little Wing

As the baby of the family, Little Wing is a spoiled brat. She was a bit of an "accident", arriving in the 6th century of her Fathers life. Filled with menace and mirth, Little Wing brought disruption to the existing family hierarchy.  "A little competition among them won't hurt a thing," their Father could be heard muttering "Maybe they'll evolve"

She's from Dark Sword and is a 15mm sculpt done by Larry Elmore. The base is 30mm and is from Wyrd Miniatures.

That completes the Little Monster siblings. And I like these little guys so well, I'm putting them in a little spin-off short story of their own.  The working title of that piece is "On the Origins of Zombies". It will only take a few posts to tell the tale and I'm still painting figures for "The Wyrm of Connemara"

The painters and gamers out there know exactly why I'm taking this side-trip. Something shiny has caught my eye and I have to paint it NOW.

This is a 15mm Bushwoolie sculpted by Tom Meier and available at his online store at Thunderbolt Mountain. I have three of these little guys in different poses and this is one of them.

Now a couple of Bushwoolies aren't enough to justify the trouble of a short story. There's also this figure.

This is a teaser photo of the backside of the heroine of my story, Suzie Swagger.  If you want to see the front-side and find out what Little Wing, some Bushwoolies and a Pirate babe have to do with the origins of Zombies, you'll have to tune in next week.

It's Wednesday folks and for some people that means it's time to do a little whinging and moaning about their lives. I say stuff a sock in it and focus on something positive. I know I will.

Dirty Little Monsters

Two of Naz T. Habit's siblings have made their way off the painting table. Now you may notice that they don't resemble Naz T in the least. You might even say they're not the same specie of monster so there's no way they could be siblings. And further, they don't even have the same surname. A conundrum you say? Perhaps, but in the world of my storybook anything is possible and the rules of evolution have been suspended.

First up we have Phat A. Nevil and he's an 18mm figure from Hell Dorado.

Next we have Baba O'Really, the apple of her Fathers eye. She is an 18mm figure from Dark Sword and was sculpted by Larry Elmore.

These small figures are really forcing me to learn how to push the highlights way up. Each time I took a test photo, I'd see that the detail wasn't visible. And it was back to the painting table with them for more highlighting. I finally took the highest points up to a near white to really bring out the folds in the clothing.

The last of the Little Monster family is on the painting table now and she's a Winged Cat Demon and she's a petite 15mm figure.  She's really difficult to paint, but she's such a mixture of beauty and menace that I'm really enjoying her. I like her so well, I've put her on a scenic base (shock, horror!!).

Please remember that I'm having surgery tomorrow and that I will not be commenting after close of business today until I fell well enough to return to Blogger.

I'd like to wish all the Americans out there a Happy Thanksgiving. May you all have football, food and family fun this Thursday coming.

Paying It Forward

I was recently given the Liebster Blog Award by Vincent at Figurine Passion. This means a great deal to me as it came from a fellow painter and a painter that I have the deepest respect for. I'm still new to the painting/gaming community and your acceptance of me is greatly appreciated.

According to the rules of the award, I am to pick five of my fellow bloggers to pass the award on to-paying the kindness shown to me forward.

Kris over at Wargames and Railroads There were many painters that inspired me to paint, but only one that made it possible and that's Kris. He gave me my first set of paints, a large set of paints. I didn't ask him, he offered out of nowhere and out of kindness. He also taught me, via email on those first figures. When I paint, I always hope to please my first teacher.

Michael at  28mm Victorian Warfare  Michael is as proper a British gentleman as you'd hope to meet. What he doesn't know is that I lurked on his page for months and months before I worked up the courage to comment and follow him.  Oh yes, I did. I read all of your posts Sir Michael, all the way back to the first one.  And my favorites were the dinosaur figures as they showed talent, creativity and a playful spirit.

Jay at Jay's Miniature Enterprises  Jay is a painter, a sculptor, a gamer and a man of integrity. I have so much fun visiting Jay's place and he has always made me feel welcome. Right now he's sculpting a squadron of flying mutant pigs and those of us who follow him eagerly await their first mission. It was a good day indeed when I found his page.

Tamisin at Wargaming Girl  Tamisin is the rarest of creatures- A girl that games, knows her history, paints and is accepted by the men as an equal in the gaming world.  I'm not the kind of girl that hangs out with girls. I don't talk about fashion, hair or makeup so finding female friends is difficult for me. Tamisin is the kind of woman I could share a pint with and talk with into the wee hours.

Marzio at  Fog Soldiers Blog  When you're a new painter like I am, you need mentors. People who paint professionally and are willing to share what they know are valuable. I feel privileged to have come to know a painter of this calibre and am grateful that he does so many tutorials on his page. He has also been unfailingly kind to me and gives me encouragement to become a better painter.

I am passing this award along with a no-strings-attached policy. No one is under any obligation to mention me in a post or to pass this award on. I have chosen to do so in gratitude to the person that I received it from.

Today is Sunday folks and for me that's a day of joy, a day to be thankful for the life that flows within my veins.  So today lay aside your troubles and celebrate your existence.  I know I will.

Where I've Been and Where I'll Be

Last week my attendance on Blogger was spotty and I was late getting to some peoples posts and missed some posts completely.  For that I am sorry. I do my best to be a good follower, but sometimes fall short of the mark.  Because I may have hurt some peoples feelings, I'm going to explain where I was and where I will be next week.

Since my accident with the tram in 2004, I've had 3 reconstructive surgeries on my right knee. I had the last one done in 2007 with the understanding that I would need to have debri and spicules removed every two years. It has been five years since I've had that done, so the knee is in pretty bad shape right now and I am in constant pain. I have not however, allowed that pain to limit my life. I garden, I play drums, I do housework and I take long walks with my dogs.

I spent most of last week at surgeons having x-rays and MRI's which caused me to be late or to miss posts. I have surgery scheduled for Tuesday November 20th and I absolutely will not be commenting on blogs following Monday.  I will return to blogger when I am able. I desperately need people to understand this. To that end,  I will be republishing this post until I know everyone has seen it.

I will post some figures on Monday, and I will be in to comment through Monday.

Thank you.

It's Innocent Allure by a Nose

The results are in and Innocent Allure was the winner in Anne's Epic Babe Challenge. It wasn't so much a "nose" that she won by either, it was more like, well you know what I mean.

Because it was apparent to me early on that Fran's babe was going to win, I began to feel really bad for Ray.  I mean  Ray's a nice guy so he should win something as well.  So that's when I came up with the idea of a Consolation Babe.  And here she is.

Now she may not be much to look at, but she'll keep a man warm on a cold winters night.  And because I know you have a thing for Polish women Ray, I've decided to name her Franziska Ania Siwczyk.

Well it's Monday folks and the beginning of what  I'm sure will be a really shite filled week.  So you might as well pop a tab on a cold one, put up your feet and turn the jams up really loud. I know I will.

Melanie the Seer of Ireland

When a dragon returns to Ireland. bringing death and destruction, the people of the village need answers.  "From where did this horror come?" and "How can we possibly hope to defeat this evil?"  They turn to the only person who can help them find the knowledge they seek-Melanie. the Seer of Ireland.

This is a 32mm scale figure from Dark Sword and was sculpted by the late Dennis Mize, the man whose sculpts Dark Sword was founded upon.  It was a pleasure to paint a figure sculpted by him.

She turned out to be an important piece for me. Finally, I got the highlights high enough and I felt confident for the first time when I was drybrushing. The sculpt itself had beautiful lines and as always the casting at Dark Sword is superior.

Without the talent of the sculptor, we who paint are nothing. The great sculptor, Tom Meier, recently did a tribute sculpt for Dennis. Please do yourself a favor and click on the link to see this magnificent piece of work --Tribute Sculpt.  I cannot post the picture on blogger because part of the sculpt features a fully nude female. It is tasteful, I assure you.

It's Friday folks and we've all survived to see the end of another week.  So get on out there and shake your tail feathers this weekend.  I know I will.

Deadly Elegance or Innocent Allure

Welcome to Anne's Epic Babe Challenge where you get to decide which babe is the sexiest. Is it the babe I painted for Ray or will it be Fran's babe that takes your breath away?

First up we have Ray's babe and I chose her because Rousell has a bit of thing for Ms. Zooey Deschanel, a dark beauty who favors a vintage style.  The figure is from Hell Dorado and is 28mm scale.  I think she has a Deadly Elegance.

If you know Fran, you know he likes two things above all else in a woman and this babe has those two things in spades.  She's from Hasslefree Miniatures and is 25mm scale. I wanted to give this babe an Innocent Allure. The look of a sex kitten-innocent on the outside, naughty on the inside. I freehand painted the scrollwork on the skirt.

At the top of my right sidebar you'll find a poll where you can vote for either Deadly Elegance or for Innocent Allure.  The polls will be open until 12:00 a.m. Saturday November 10th GMT.  The winner will be announced on November 12th. In the event of a tie, The Hubby has the tie breaking vote.

So you decide, will it be Ray or will it be Fran who walks away with the Bonus Babe? Either way, I win because I bought the Bonus Babe on Saturday, which is what this is all about in the first place.

This post has been done with autopost. I had a difficult day yesterday and  I must get some sleep. I will be around to comment and read blogs in a few hours. Please take no offense if I'm running late.

Anne's Epic Babe Challenge

I've had my eye on a figure for the last month, but have had no good reason to buy her.

Isn't she pretty? Well pretty won't cut it with The Hubby so I've had to create a reason to buy her. Hence my Epic Babe vs Babe Challenge.

As part of my story, "The Wyrm of Connemara" I've painted a babe for both Fran and Ray's characters. One is a pale beauty from Hasslefree Miniatures and the other a dark temptress from Hell Dorado. Both figures are very sexy. But you know those two. as soon as they see their babes, they'll start arguing about who's babe is the sexiest.  And none of us wants to put up with that now do we?

This Challenge is designed to prevent the inevitable bickering between those boys by allowing you and the guys at The Miniatures Page (yes, I've been moonlighting) to vote on which babe is the sexiest. And it allows me to buy the figure I want. "How is that?" you ask. Well this is how.

The new figure is a "bonus babe" If Ray's babe wins the contest, then I'll write an "encounter" between his character and the "bonus babe" into my story. And likewise for Fran's character if his babe should win. Either way, I win. And in the end that's all that really matters to me.

On Wednesday, November 7th, I'll be posting pictures of both babes and there will be a poll in my right sidebar to allow for voting. The polls will be open until Saturday, November 9th and the winner will be announced on Monday, November 12th.

I won't be posting anything between now and the 7th and I may not be in much as I've got new music that I have to learn.

Well folks it's Friday and it's been a heck of  a week for everyone around the globe. Now it's time to put the world and all it's problems on the top shelf and do something that really trips your trigger. I know I will.

Orlin, The Eternal King of Canada

Orlin, a god and the Eternal King of Canada is engaged in a centuries old struggle with Anne of Eire. Not satisfied with stealing her life, the feline god is bent on the destruction of her homeland. To this end, hundreds of years ago, Orlin began gathering the last eggs of Dragonkind.  In the frozen wastelands of Canada he hatched forth a single Wyrm to do his bidding.

The character of Orlin is being played by Pat Hatt from Rhyme Time.

The figure is from Dark Sword is 32mm scale and was sculpted by Dave Summers.

I've posted a lot this week and I thought to myself "Anne, you could really be boring people by asking them to comment on your blog so many times in one week." And I know I hate to be bored, so naturally that caused me to think of one word-Challenge. Yes folks it's time for another one of Anne's Spontaneous Wacky Challenges.

This Challenge is so spontaneous that the people involved don't even know they're involved. So stop on by tomorrow for details on this Epic Event.
