Dirty Little Monsters

Two of Naz T. Habit's siblings have made their way off the painting table. Now you may notice that they don't resemble Naz T in the least. You might even say they're not the same specie of monster so there's no way they could be siblings. And further, they don't even have the same surname. A conundrum you say? Perhaps, but in the world of my storybook anything is possible and the rules of evolution have been suspended.

First up we have Phat A. Nevil and he's an 18mm figure from Hell Dorado.

Next we have Baba O'Really, the apple of her Fathers eye. She is an 18mm figure from Dark Sword and was sculpted by Larry Elmore.

These small figures are really forcing me to learn how to push the highlights way up. Each time I took a test photo, I'd see that the detail wasn't visible. And it was back to the painting table with them for more highlighting. I finally took the highest points up to a near white to really bring out the folds in the clothing.

The last of the Little Monster family is on the painting table now and she's a Winged Cat Demon and she's a petite 15mm figure.  She's really difficult to paint, but she's such a mixture of beauty and menace that I'm really enjoying her. I like her so well, I've put her on a scenic base (shock, horror!!).

Please remember that I'm having surgery tomorrow and that I will not be commenting after close of business today until I fell well enough to return to Blogger.

I'd like to wish all the Americans out there a Happy Thanksgiving. May you all have football, food and family fun this Thursday coming.

  8. Nice figs. On the contrary (perhaps because of the different scale) I always find my highlights too high.

    1. The littler they are, the harder time I have of getting the camera to pick up what I've done and I've always had a bit of a problem with going high enough.

  11. Once again, I really hope the surgery goes well. Those figures are full of colour, and small details, so even I can tell how much work has gone in to them, and they look great.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours and I hope you do them before I do mine so I can learn something!

  20. I am completely in love with Phat A. Nevil - that hat has fantastic contrast, Anne!

Do you watch Ink Master on A&E (I think?) - it's a tattoo show and they do competitions on inking through various coloring i.e. contrasts, highlights etc. It's really an interesting show. I think you'd enjoy it.

I'm sending healing prayers your way, Anne. I got your email and I'll write back tonight but I know you'll be sleeping...be well!!

    1. Phat turned out the better of the two I think.

I don't have telly so I haven't heard of the show. I'll check out Netflix and Hulu to see if they have it. I love tatoo art, some of those guys are masters and I can't believe they can do the things they do.

I'll try to get to sleep early tonight, but who knows I'm a night owl and I'll sleep most of tomorrow away!

    2. Not to pick favorites over the two but I think I like Phat best too =)

We are watching the current competition of Ink Master now on our DVR. Loving it!! Except one chick is a super whiner..the cat would hate it ha ha ha

That's how I was before my surgery, I couldn't sleep the night before, but was knocked out the next day! I have to go run errands with my college boy! TTYL

  22. I love both of these Anne. The first is quite the creepy looking bugger but it's painted perfectly and that's all part of the charm. Best of luck in your surgery tomorrow, hopefully it's just a minor one and everything goes well. Let us all know how it goes even if it's in the form of a very short post.

    1. He's got a certain look in his eyes that says "I've got a dagger hidden in the folds of this cloak"

The Cat demon is so cool looking. I'm struggling a bit with bringing out the detail. The wings are in golds and bronzes and metallics are tricky to get depth on. The cloak is in teal. I like the colour pallete, now it's up to execution. Should have her posted next week.

I needed some of my painting equipment over the weekend to help my daughter with a project, and I couldn't find any of it! I thought I kind of knew where it was, but I was so wrong! I want to go dig, and I can't...>so sad<

yes, I'll be taking pictures, in fact my friend Bill wants to test out a theory he has- we'll play a game of Blood Bowl with reversing the dice rolls, so a 6 is a 1, 5 is a 2, etc. he wants to see if my tendency to have bad dice rolling in Blood Bowl is a quirk of the numbers themselves, or to see if it's something karmic- maybe I was a terrible person in a past life, like Andrew Jackson. -I hope it's not the latter ;) so we'll take pictures and I'll do a blog report on the game
