Ray Rousell Is The Supreme Master Of The Universe

As much as it galls me to say this, by honor and by right, I must 'Ray beat me in the feckin' paint challenge, but I'm pretty sure he cheated'.  There, I said it now excuse me while I go sick up.

Would you just look at the little bastard smiling there like a boy let out of school for the day. With a final score of 60 to 57 he eked out a win and I bet right now he's sipping champagne and dancing a jig while chanting 'I beat Anne, I beat Anne'

Now Ray may be an arsemonkey, but I learned a lot from this challenge and a lot from following his blog for the past year (feels more like 10) and I'm a better painter because of it. I really am happy that a painter of his skill level would bother with helping out someone like myself (Jesus, I'm going to be sick again, I can taste it).

And Fran, I'm sorry, I tried but the fecker beat me and now you'll likely be getting a sculpt of a pile of shite for your birthday.

But there is good news because I won something different. Ian from A Blog With No Name was doing a giveaway and I won a limited addition resin sculpt of a Barbarian by Degra, who uses some of the finest sculptors in the business.  As soon as he hits 100 followers, Ian is doing another, bigger give-away so get your arses on over there and follow him or you may find yourself on the receiving end of one of my wacky Challenges in the future.

I've got some things coming up that I'm really excited about. I'm doing a story set in Ireland and it's an epic legend with dragons and hero's and villains.

Next week the Hubby is doing a guest post and he's promised me he will reply to the comments. Some of you will finally get the chance to ask him how in the hell he puts up with me and he will tell you.  I'm so fecked.

100 comments:

  1. Of course he cheated Anne – he chopped up the staff and turned it into a broomstick, some kind of hocus pocus shenanigans going on there. And who ever heard of a green mouse! ;)

They were both superbly painted and I think 48% to 51% goes to show how close it really was!

    Well done both of you!
(Now get over to my blog and donate to charity!)

  4. I'm fecking horrified, the gimp is dancing and grinning like a leprechaun with piles but can I say I agree about the cheating as I had to help Ray with the bristles on the figures broomstick surely that's not all his own work and should be considered cheating....let's have another vote!

    1. I knew the fecker would be dancing about and gloating. Jesus, we'll never hear the end of his bragging. And because he cheated he should have to paint those figures you've been on him to paint! I don't know how you can stand to work with him, really I'd kill myself if it were me.

    2. Angry, I feel for you! Having to be right there listening to him gloat about beating my sweet, dear, lovely, beautiful, Anne!!!

Thank you Elsie. He really has to be stopped you know, he's getting such an ego.

    2. Annzie, does Raystone, know that as a Supreme Master of the Universe he has to wear He Man outfits? Skimpy silver speedos and not much else? :PP

    3. 'tis true, all Masters of the Universe wear either He Man or Flash Gordon outfits at their throne :) Annzie will confirm.

    4. He does darling and he looks absolutely horrid in it. Even the Pope won't look at those pictures and you know he's usually into that sort of thing.

I saw the pics Ray as Fran emailed them to me. I've always wondered what happened to the goat that was there that night.

    5. oh, lord :)
Well, it the Pope doesn't wanna see it, we shan't insist then :) Pope has always been our moral role model LOL even when he wears his red Prada shoes with which he could feed half of Somalia!

  6. That was a close call. Have the models been testedfr banned substances? As I said in a prior post I liked things from both model more than on the otherso it was really difficult to choose. I think hanging so well you should take a lot of pride from the experiance, your skill is up there and if you challenge him again after buildin on your experiance I recon you should crush him like a beetle ;-)

Thanks for the plug as well, hope you like te figure in person as much as you did in the photo

    1. Thank you Ian. I will undoubtedly crush the little weasel beneath the heel of my boot in the not too distant future.

I know I'll love the figure as I have one from them already and it's gorgeous. I'll have to read up on how to prep a resin figure first.

  8. Total votes within a 5% margin? pretty damn close call.
Let's see, if you divide votes by number of previous minis each painter has painted I'd say you cleaned his clock ;) Just like the Olympics- who cares who got the most medals, more significant who got the most medals per capita of their nation's population... besides you also won: you made him paint a magic mouse ;)

  10. While I am sad that it was not you that was victorious, I am glad you got something out of it! Any time you can walk away from a tragedy like that with something positive, its a good day. Even if that means having Ray bring it up with you every single chance he gets.

As for everything else - I am excited and can't wait! Sounds like its going to be fun...although I already have an idea as to why hubby "puts up with you"!

    1. It will be a tragedy for all of us who have to hear him brag about it for the next couple of months.

The Hubby would probably say it's because he can't physically run away!!

    2. The Hubby has a really good sense of humor and he's going to poke fun at me and I'm going to poke back. It's one of the cornerstones of our relationship.

    3. No you git, the Hubby can't run away. You on the other hand should start now as I'm coming for you!!

  11. Hahahaha, Ray looks so proud of himself in the photo lmao, commiserations on the loss though Anne, I guess Ray is just too skilled to be beaten yet, both were amazing though. I can't wait for your husband's guest post too, the adversity he's beaten back in recent times at least is something that I think every single one of your readers can draw inspiration from.

  13. It was a great effort by both of you!

I have to admit it was the work done on the broomstick that swung the vote for me (and I suspect others as well) so if that was Fran's work then probably half of the votes for the Mouse Witch should actually go to Fran which means you actually thrashed Ray by a huge margin!

    1. Preach it brother!! You hit the nail on the head. He cheated and he should have to pay for it, but noooooo, he's laughing like a maniac now. Expecting me to call him Your Lordship, it's sad when a good man goes bad.

    3. You got Ray to paint a fantasy mouse!
    4. Lots of us couldn't tell which was painted by whom
    5. you got Ray to paint a fantasy mouse!

This was a great challenge. I loved both models and it was very difficult to choose which to vote for as some details were better on one than the other. I did actually vote for yours it turns out - I preferred how the fur and eyes had been done :)

  24. Congratulations Ray! I agree, both mice were great and it was difficult to tell which one was painted by who (whom?).

Please tell me we don't have to start referring to Ray as the Supreme Master of the Universe now, do we? Will there be an asterisk in the record books since he had assistance (aka cheated) with his figure?

The best part of this challenge, aside from seeing how talented you both are, is the smack talk today! You guys rock at smack talk. If you guys tried to judge the aftermath - it would be impossible to judge!! Although, Anne...you are quite good once you get started =P

  27. I worked out who had paintd which after a good long side by side look..the real giveaway was the basing..Ray´s had a "wargamers" look to it.but I still wasn´t too sure..either of you could have borrowed a bit from the other tomake the differences less obvious...Anyway´s, even then the idea was to choose the best in the eyes of the observer, irrespective of who had painted which and I still reckon they are both as good as each other, which is reflected in the close vote.
Congrats to both of you. Here´s to the next one.
    Cheers

    1. I've never done basing like that Paul and I'll have to read some tutorials and learn how. And the story behind that is this. A few days before the deadline Ray emails me and says "I'm not going to do any basing on my figure" Another example of his cheating.

Ray I'll make this an annual Challenge and next year I'll destroy you!!

  28. I think he cheated. He did a mouse witch, thinking that your followers would think you are the one who did the witch. I voted for the mage, I thought it had great detail, especially those eyes! Well done! You're still a winner in my book!

  35. I think you put in a stellar performance for a relative newbie.

I will admit I voted for Ray (sorry) simply because he put forward a very tidy work and added an interesting bit of conversion work.

However I actually preferred your idea and composition (the red starry cloak - reminded me of Rincewind from Terry Pratchett's Diskworld). What let you down were a couple of little details; you had not filed down the mold line on the back of the tail, and you left it on a standard base wheres as Ray had put it on a decorative base.

Still a great job though. I preferred the facial details you did over Ray's too.
