We Interrupt This Post

I'm doing something I've never done before, I'm interrupting a running post. We just received a call from The Hubby's neurosurgeon and all the test results are now in. As some of my closest blogger friends know we have been rather frightened for these last two weeks.

I'm almost at a loss for words right now, my fear is so great. The decision has been made to proceed with two spinal surgeries and teams are being assembled while I write this.  There is no way to avoid the cervical spinal surgery. This is the upper neck for those of you who are unfamiliar with this terminology. The cervical spinal cord is responsible for innervating the respiratory system and loss of function at this level will leave the Hubby a quadriplegic as well.  The second surgery will be done in the lumbar (lower back region) where two discs will be removed and the vertebrae fused together.

I know that the vast majority of you do not believe in God, but some of you do. For those of you who do, I would ask that you pray that God guide the hands of the surgeons who will be performing these surgeries. I ask that you pray that God grant my family the strength to endure what is to come and I ask you that God grant me peace while going through this.

If I drop off the blogosphere suddenly and for an extended period of time, you know where I'll be. Those of you with my email address can contact me. I ask that you be patient with me on getting back to you.

Thank you.

  1. Oh wow Anne, I actually felt that tension too while I was reading this and I'm sorry to hear that you didn't receive any kind of all clear. I really hope that your husband gets through this surgery and comes out as well as possible, it's kind of sad it's came down to this though. You know I'm not particularly religious but I reckon closer to the time I will have a prayer for your husband. If it doesn't work then that's okay but at least we're trying, anything is worth a shot. Best of luck in everything Anne, remember to not feel bad about leaving Blogger for a while, this is more important.

  10. My thoughts will definitely be with you and your husband today! I will pray that the surgeons hands are successful and that your family has the strength to endure. You are a strong woman and I hope you keep your family strong in this time of anxiety.

  11. I can't imagine the anxiety and stress levels. Surely the universe must look at the potential you have to wreck havoc and must invoke the "let the wookie win" clause, and let you have your wish. Good luck, stay strong, will be hoping for you guys!

I really hope that nothing goes wrong with the surgery, and this might even improve his life. He's lucky to have such a strong and loving woman by his side, and I know you will stay that way.

  31. Anne, You should know by now that I am all heart and that I also have faith in God. My prayers are with you, truly.

I also want to add that there are times when I wished I had the privilege of your email. I love more personal interaction with blogging friends. I think very highly of you and think of you and speak of you often with my wife. You are one heck of a woman and God be with you!

    Prayers are coming your way.

I'm cleaning house, packing suitcases and painting to keep calm. I don't know anymore yet than I did earlier today. I'll get to emails in the wee hours like I usually do.

  41. It's going to be a long weekend for me Francis waiting on that phone to ring. This one is for all the marbles and I'm keeping busy the best way I know how until we get to the other side. I'm going to post pics of him pre-op and post-op so people can see what he's been through.

    1. Weekend is going to nail biting for us too. We love the picture, good touch. I would really to love to see his post-op picture more healthy and awesome. You a strong and awesome and he is very lucky to have you near him to give strength and get through this fine.

      Delete
    2. Those first post-ops are going to be horrific. He'll be bolted down to a metal bed frame and the bed will be turned every six hours. And the incisions they have to make are awful. These surgeries won't really make him much better, their main purpose is to keep the spinal cord free of obstruction for as long as possible. If he can have the full use of his arms for the rest of his life, he'll be happy with that.

  42. Prayers to everone involved. I have had two back surgeries on my lower back and it was quiet painful in the healing process but it helped beyond words. Everything will be ok my friend, a good wife like you ALWAYS helps when a man is down.

  43. Thank you Bama. I'll take good care of him and fuss over him too.

  44. @Anne
I know I am not helpful here, that sounds appalling. I am sure you being next to him will give him all the strength and get through this fine. I am not a hardcore atheist and I pray only when I am deeply hurt and desperate and nothing is more desperate than this.
I am sure you are going to post post-op healthy pictures of him. I am going to pray for that till then.
