So what in the hell am I talking about? I'm talking about a make-believe me as a painted miniature in a make-believe world called Franonia that is ruled by the dictator Fran (aka The Angry Lurker). If you follow Angry then you're aware that he's building his own world over at his place. Well as soon as I saw that first post I said to myself "Anne you've just got to become a citizen of Franonia." So thinking that two women coming at Angry would be better than just one, me and fellow blogger The Whisk asked if we could be part of Franonia. He said yes and painted a figure for both of us and mailed them to me. I got them in the post on Monday.
That's me on the right and The Whisk on the left. As we had a sunny day, I photographed these outside under my tree. Aren't we sexy? We can lure the enemy into Franonia and then the Marines can pick just pick them off at their leisure.
And this is us from behind. Be careful boys because I'm hiding a gun behind my back and I'm not afraid to use it.
I have to admit that getting this figure made me very happy and I wanted to put her somehwere special.
So I'm keeping her on my music stand in front of my drums where I can see her while I play.
And I think she goes well with the roses I have on my bass drum.
Now that I've actually held a figure in my hands, I'm even more excited about painting my own. I ordered my brushes, Kalinski sables in sizes 4/0, 3/0, 2/0 0/0 and 1. If any of you gamers think I need another size, let me know what it is, because 1 was the largest they had. I also bought 2 figures from CoolMiniOrNot. I got a female warrior and a male warrior at a very low price and these will be my practice pieces.
Normally I get sick to my stomach when I spend money on myself, but I didn't feel guilty about buying this stuff. So I decided "What the hell, I really want those frog figures from Dark Sword Miniatures and I'm happy, so why not?" I'm getting the Frog Jester, The Frog Master of the Hunt and The Frog Dragon Slayer.
I have however managed to distract the Hubby from how much I'm going to be spending when buying the rest of my supplies. I told him to go buy himself a new laptop computer and he did. Now I have all the leeway I need for my new addiction.
They look great but then I'm biased.......
ReplyDeleteThey do look good don't they? From the hands of a master comes a masterwork....
DeleteI love them. So much fun. And I tell ya, with my legs and your knockers, we could really stop traffic. Maybe even cause a pile up.
Delete:-)
I don't know what happened to my :-) she got cut off. But that's okay. I forgot to say that I'm glad your getting some stuff. No guilt.
DeleteLaptop was a good idea though.
Hey, my smile face got cut off again. Okay, I know when I'm beat. Best go cut some of them coupons out for my next shop.
DeleteCheers and boogie boogie.
I think we could turn a few heads walking around in public looking like that. Imagine if we strolled into a pub together. We'd not have to buy ourselves a single drink all night and we might even be able to cause a few fights!! It would be grand.
DeleteMini me is great, and "The Big One" sounds just like me: loves booze, painting, photos, music.
DeleteI do all that kinda stuff myself too.Just check my blog. It's all there.
Cheers from Brazil,
Helio
Haha, I'm with Angry and think they look awesome, maybe mini Anne should get a Twitter account too considering all the ridiculous accounts I've heard have been created recently such as Angelina Jolie's legs and other weird stuff haha.
ReplyDeleteI love that, MiniAnne. She could be my alter-ego and go 'round twitter saying wacky shite. Wait a minute, I already do that!!
DeleteWell if the cat and Pat can each have one, I'm sure Anne and mini-Anne could too..haha
DeleteThe idea of me having an alter ego scares the Hubby to pieces. He has a hard time handling just one of me, the poor man.
DeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteQuite a nice gift! Minis are deceptively expensive, but paints & brushes can last a very long time if you take care of them, so that part of the money stretches a lot.
I'd suggest getting some 'junk brushes'.. go to Michael's or other art store, and pick out a few larger brushes, still small, not talking house-painting here, but it's nice to have some inexpensive brushes for when you do things like mix paint or base coat large areas like the bases, so you don't put as much wear & tear on the nicer brushes.
I didn't think of that, thank you. I'll put that on the list of things I'm picking up from the local Hobby Shop this weekend. I'm getting an idea of how expensive these things are. It adds up really quick.
DeleteBuying a new laptop is going to keep him very busy. One can fiddle on a computer for hours...hahaha
ReplyDeleteLove what you guys did with the figurine and congratulations on joining the new world. lol I couldn't help but smile when you put her behind the drums. Your mini me is great! Can't wait to see what you do with all your new art supplies :)
I'm going to play like I was a ten year old again!! It's going to be so much fun, I don't think I'm ever going to grow up!!
DeleteI can't believe how small they are with all that detail in the painting. Those are really great. Quite the gateway drug, first one is free but after that they're gonna cost you.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the reason's I got hooked on mini's is seeing all the detail these big guys could paint onto these mini's. And it is addictive, but it's cheaper than cocaine when measured in grams.
DeleteThey look great! I'd say he did a fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish my wife would tell me to go get a new laptop! We only have one and are constantly fighting over it. This is why I can't get my MS painting done. I'm trying to replace my addictions with healthier ones but lack the resources to do so!
The hubby's computer was so old, he needed a new one anyway. I could never do the MSPaint or ArtRage or blog at all if I had to share a computer. It's rare for us to spend money like this, but we finally got paid for some work we did in the past and have a small amount we can spend on ourselves right now. And then we close the wallet back up again.
DeleteWow job well done by Angry, you guys can be their trojan horse or those singing things, forget name, brain fart at the moment, harpies? That lure people in with ease and then get them captured or picked off. Some how I have a feeling though that mini you wouldn't be satisifed with just being bait and take them out herself..haha
ReplyDeleteNo Pat, not a harpie! Those are ugly as sin you eejit. You mean a Siren, that's the word you're looking for. And you're right Pat, I could never just be bait, hence the gun in my hand.
DeleteLOL whoops, we'll blame that one on the cat..hahaha. Well you can sing too, so a Siren you could be in the made up land of angry.
DeleteI'll sing to make the troops ready for battle, to give them courage and maybe earn a little coin of the realm for myself to buy cymbals for my drum kit! Make-believe worlds are so much more fun than the real one!!
DeleteThat will surely help them win and give you some coin. Yes, make believe words are sooo much better, as you can actually get things done and have fun.
DeleteWhy are you the more buxom one? Not that there's anything wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteWell the other one's not wearing any panties so I think Franonia is going to be a place to have a really good time!!
DeleteTwo can be more fun than one.
DeleteIt generally takes two women to handle one Irishman.
DeleteThen color me Irish. xo
DeleteIf dictator Fran gives you trouble in his kingdom, call Dezzdragon to set his bum on fire and save Annezel in distress ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll set off a flare if I get into trouble over there but I think I'll be okay. It's been a while but I think I remember how to handle an Irishman. He's bound to give me trouble though, it's in his nature.
DeleteDezzdragon will get a ground to air missile up his ass if that flying flame-thrower appears in my airspace!
DeleteOh Angry, I'm having so much fun with you this week. I'm laughing up a storm right now.
Deletepffft, we dragons have missile proof scales... /puffs a flame at the unsuspecting Irishman's Donald Duck boxers with a sneer/ :)
DeleteDonald Duck boxers hahahaha. I can hear him pulling the pin out of a hand grenade right now. Duck!!!!!
DeleteI can hear it too, Annezilla, let us flee to the nearest cave and barricade ourselves :)
DeleteThose are some really cool miniatures.
ReplyDeleteI know I really love these things. There are so many kinds its amazing. The guys who make these minis are really talented artists. Can you imagine sculpting a mold for something that small?
DeleteGreat Mini-Anne. I love the paintjob Fran did, and the gun behind the back. She could also be a Stewardess for O'Leary Air to help increase revenue through a little larceny.
ReplyDeleteI think O'Leary Air may be used to transfer Guinness into Franonia. I'll remove all the loos to make more space for beer!!
DeleteHe's a very talented painter and has done justice to both you and Whisk....and it's good to indulge your passions every so often :)
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be fun. The kind of fun you had as a kid when going down a slide fun.
DeleteWow! The figures the Angry Lurker painted for you look great! And I don't just mean the paint job! Wow! Theres a lot of breats there! I think I gotta get back into painting figurines!
ReplyDeleteI like how you handle your husband by the way!
All the female figures have huge boobies. They are made by men for men and they're all very sexy. I have two female warriors coming and one is scantily clad. You'll love her.
DeleteClever isn't it. He's happy, I'm happy and it there's no yelling. The perfect solution to getting what I want.
I can't wait to see what the warriors are wearing! (or what there not wearing!)
DeleteJust remember how much was spent on the laptop and watch how much you spend on minis! Then we can see what a laptop worth of minis looks like!
ha..way to distract hubs....and what a cool set of miniatures..def got that deadly gleam in their eyes...and nice placement too...just hope the bass does not rattle them off you know...
ReplyDeleteThat bass rattles the entire blog when I play. So far though, nothing has been broken.
Deletejust swinging back through to see if it was shaking...smiles.
Deletehope you are well.
Those are great! Fran did some nice work there. Now did we not have a discussion about brush sizes? Glad to see you getting ready to spread some paint.
ReplyDeleteThey are nice aren't they. Yes and I can't wait to get my paints next week!! I forgot to get my diamond file too, I'll get that when I order the black and the white paint and sneak in that extra mini or two at the same time!!!
DeleteAhh those are awesome! Lurker is the best, and I love your kick ass drum kit.
ReplyDeleteI know, I love them. My kit is huuuge. I've named it, I call it "The Beast" The bass smokes cigars and drinks whiskey and threatens me if I don't play every day.
DeleteDid you get any flat tipped brushes for dry brushing? You need more than just the standard round brushes if you want to get any real feeling to your miniatures.
ReplyDeleteI have pics up of some of my work on my blog (and on FB), by the way. You know, if you're interested.
No, I didn't. They didn't have any at that site. I got every Kalinski they had except the very smallest.
DeleteI'm on my way over to your blog now!!!
I found them, they were under your Crafty Am I page. Those are nice. I really like those dwarfs. I've been looking at dwarfs and they are on my "must do" list. I have to find exactly the right dwarf series though.
DeleteI feel pretty guilty spending money on myself too, but I'm going to buy a ton of CD's soon. Yay me. I think the world could easily handle another you. Just be careful that SHE is the one that goes to jail, not you. Even if you're the one that did it. The figures look pretty good too, I wonder if he'd make you part of his harem. Every dictator needs a harem. It's one of the perks of the job.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be part of a harem Mark. I'd probably poison the other women and that wouldn't be good. I will however send a plane out to pick up Pamela Sue Anderson and get her for him if he wants me to.
DeleteCool, i shall look forward to seeing your stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to post this project from beginning to end, so you guys are going to see my mistakes. But I'll ask you guys to tell me what could have been done better.
DeleteFor little details on the figures I sometimes uses a brush in size 10/0.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Lonewolf
Thank you, that's a very small brush. I'll have a better idea of what to expect when I'm holding a mini in one hand and a brush in the other.
DeleteI believe if I received awesome an awesome mini-me in the mail, I'd probably be just as excited to jump right on in on the fun! I can't wait to see your frogs. :D
ReplyDeleteThose frogs are so cool. I'm eventually going to buy the whole frog series they have. I'm going to wait to paint them until I get some practice in.
DeleteOh, that's wicked, Anne! You're one foxy figurine! :)
ReplyDeleteShe's so neat isn't she. I love her gun!!
DeleteMy friend has a drum set just like that! Must be a popular brand
ReplyDeleteIt's a Ludwig, but I had this one custom built. It took Ludwig five months to make it for me, but it was worth the wait. They made it exactly the way I wanted it, right down to the lugs.
DeleteYour very own action figure! And you didn't even have to voice a character in one of those overhyped Pixar movies. How cool is that?
ReplyDeleteI don't feel guilty spending $$ on myself, except when compared to the amount of $$ my wife spends on herself. (Which is $0). If she told be to buy myself a new laptop so she could justify buying something for herself I think the shock of it would make my head explode. (Sorry, i'm on an exploding head theme this week...I dunno why)
I think your head feels like exploding because you little one is keeping you up nights! You'll go through a short period of easy and then when they're teens they'll keep you up at night worrying about where they're at.
DeleteThose figures look great! Kudos to The Angry Lurker And I love the way you distracted your husband. LOL!
ReplyDeletelovely "mini-Anne" !!!
ReplyDeletewelcome in the "Minis World"!!
for the brushes: doesn't matter when you begin, I think... you have time to find what you need really when you will have some practice !
Like I've said in another post: be patient and don't be too exigent in your work. If necessary, you can always re-paint a fig if you are not satisfied.
Keep the great work!
(and you can't imagine the money I spend for the minis, I'll never have time to paint them all...)
I have no shame in spending money on myself which is probably the reason I live with my mom still. But, those figurines are quite risque and very detailed. Incredible drumset too. I have a set of pearl exports collecting dust right now.
ReplyDeleteBy the way. In case you wanted to know I nominated you for an award on my blog. Check it out if you want. Also, you don't need to fill it out. I'm just giving a shoutout to the blogs I appreciate.
He did a fantastic job! What an inspiration for you to get started too. I love that you put her on your music stand. Like a little pedestal for her.
ReplyDeleteThose are brilliant!! I can't believe how tiny they are as well--until I saw the photo with the music stand, I thought they were a little bigger. That's incredible talent, and you're definitely worth such talent and devotion in the creation of a mini-Anne. ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Lol I don't know why, but I assumed you'd be the one on the left, with all the swag.
ReplyDeleteHaha, nice. They look awesome.
ReplyDeleteHe's a good lad that Fran!!!
ReplyDeleteAnne, Great work again. Go to my blog. I have a little surprise for you.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is just awesome. I am so jealous of you. I want to be an elite member of Franonia. How do I get my mini-me???
ReplyDeleteCracking work from Fran - and welcome to the madness of painting mini's ,
ReplyDeleteAs for brushes - its not about the size it's what you do with it....I do all mine with a 0 or a 1 - its the point that does the work. Enjoy
dear god those figures are TINY. I know they're small and I follow Lurker as well...but when you see the drums as an object to contrast them with my jaw hit the ground.
ReplyDeleteI have "tagged" you over at my blog. Come by to play and see the rules. :D
ReplyDeleteThose look great :)
ReplyDeleteReal cute stuff, looks like you had a lot of fun here :). I need to definitely sit down and have my own action figure made to play with.
ReplyDeleteWow! I miniaturized figure of you? That's indeed very awesome. I wish I could make one of those but unfortunately sculpting and molding isn't one of my talents.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! I can see two outstanding features which has not been marred by the minification process.
ReplyDeleteLove these mini Anne are so cute!!
ReplyDeletethis is brilliant ! figure painting is also very relaxing....not sure i would have the patience for it. can't wait to see how you paint them.
ReplyDeleteThat does look like you lol!
ReplyDeleteHuh, from the back it looks like a dress, from the front... not so much. :P
ReplyDelete
